Is it dangerous for kids to go to concerts?

I am looking to go to the Born This Way Ball (Lady Gaga) with my friends. We're all like 13. My mom pointed out that since Lady Gaga encourages everyone to be themselves, then tons of hippies and crackheads and wackos would probably be there. I've seen footage or whatever of a concert there and everyone looks really weird and stuff and I don't know if it would be a safe environment. Is it? Please help because I really want to go Lady Gaga is like the best person ever.
