When is a Truckers log book needed?

Its been awhile for me and some people are telling me different. I work for a construction company driving multiple pickup trucks a day hauling materials to job sites. There is a Straight truck with a crane that i'll be driving also. Do i still need a log book for this? And when is a log book need?
